Syrinx is seeking motivated and exceptional individuals to join our Perth and Melbourne teams in the roles of Senior Ecologist (Perth) and Senior Environmental Engineer (Melbourne) Syrinx is a multi-disciplinary and creative environmental design company operating from offices in Perth (main) and Melbourne. SENIOR ECOLOGIST/ GROUP MANAGER

Syrinx is expanding its Natural Systems Ecology Group and wishes to employ an experienced and highly motivated Senior Ecologist with a minimum of 10 years post graduate experience.

The successful candidate will project manage and lead innovative and diverse ecology projects across Australia and will have the opportunity to develop a long and successful career within this award winning consultancy.

As the most senior member of the Natural Systems Ecology Group, comprising the implementation, biodiversity and restoration ecology teams, it is anticipated that you will take direct responsibility for a highly motivated and self managed group of environmental scientists with various levels of experience.

In this role you will be involved in ecology projects at all levels, including planning and undertaking ecological surveys, ecological restoration design, remediation and implementation, report writing, overseeing environmental statements and EIA projects, project and team coordination, and managing and mentoring more junior members of staff.

You will be responsible for building client relationships, overseeing tenders and driving the business development for this group.

Applications for this role are sought from established ecology professionals with a consultancy background, demonstrable skills in staff and project management and a flair for client liaising and business development.

The Senior Ecologist will:

  • Undertake business development for the Natural Systems Ecology Group
  • Build and maintain client relationships and ensure delivery of projects to an excellent standard
  • Be able to act as a source of reliable expertise on specific technical areas and lead high profile projects
  • Responsible for team development and coaching
  • Project manage and undertake biological field surveys
  • Have sound taxonomic knowledge
  • Apply sampling strategies and employing a range of habitat survey techniques, such as: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), aerial photography, records and maps
  • Carry out environmental impact assessments
  • Analyse and interpret data, using specialist software programs
  • Have experience in habitat management and creation
  • Have excellent report writing skills
  • Liaise with and advise site managers, engineers, planners and others associated with multidisciplinary projects
  • Build relationships with stakeholders, including members of the public
  • Carry out research
  • Keep abreast of new environmental policies and legislation
  • Contribute ideas about changes to policy and/ or legislation, based on ecological findings
  • Interact with other Syrinx groups to ensure maximum ecological and restoration outcomes across all projects
  • Be the interface between the natural and urban ecology teams
  • Actively be involved in coordinating and contributing to Tenders and securing future works
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Resident

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER | TEAM LEADER

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual who can lead and help build our resource engineering team in the Melbourne office, within a culture of self-management, equality, and self-development. You will manage a range of exciting national projects covering sustainable infrastructure, integrated water management, innovative resource management, and passive wastewater systems. In particular, you will bring experience and technical skills in integrated resource management and water cycle modeling and management. The position will require project management and business development skills. You will be required to expand the Melbourne group in line with gaining new business opportunities, and be able to project manage multi-disciplinary teams comprising engineers, scientists and landscape / urban designers. To succeed in this position, you will need to have:

  • Excellent technical capacity to lead and undertake projects and contribute to excellent project outcomes
  • Excellent leadership capacity, including the ability to build and mentor a team, win the respect of others and communicate effectively between Perth and Melbourne offices
  • Strong business development skills and interest in developing and maintaining Client relationships
  • Willingness to travel nationally as required to assist in managing projects effectively
  • Credibility and an excellent track record with Clients on previous projects
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • At least 5 years experience in environmental engineering field or similar, and appropriate qualifications, preferably to Masters level.
  • Permanent Australian residency
