Syrinx is seeking three motivated and exceptional individuals to join our Perth team in the roles of Senior Water Specialist, Senior Environmental Scientist / Chemist and ESD Engineer.

We are a multi-disciplinary and creative group who come from varied backgrounds in science, architecture and engineering and who apply these skills to deliver integrated, high-end solutions to a diversity of projects in urban, rural and industrial settings.  We are at the forefront of sustainability, restoration ecology and environmental design nationally, and operate from a basis of integration, environmental ethics and project excellence.  We are looking for people who can value add to the team, in particular bringing technical skills in water management and design, environmental chemistry and sustainable energy systems. You will hold environmentally related post graduate qualifications and have demonstrated a commitment to the science with your professional affiliations. SENIOR WATER SPECIALIST

The Senior Water Specialist role will involve planning, design, modeling, and supervision within projects including:

  • Preparation of local water management strategies and urban development plans using Integrated Water Cycle Management and WSUD principles,
  • Feasibility analysis of alternative water supply sources, as part of an Integrated Resource Management approach,
  • Investigation, planning and design of stormwater systems,
  • Coordinate and manage flood studies, including climate change analysis
  • Determine potential impacts and mitigation measures,
  • Sustainable management of wastewater and water including wastewater recycling and reuse, environmental flow requirement analysis, water supply modeling, flood and climate change modeling,
  • Assist with wetland design for stormwater, wastewater treatment,
  • Assist with the preparation of contract documentation and tendering of physical works,
  • Assist with construction monitoring and contract management,
  • Assist in bid writing and pricing.

Essential Qualifications/Skills

  • Engineering, hydrology or similar qualifications, preferably to Masters level,
  • At least 5 years experience in integrated water management, design & planning of alternative water/wastewater treatment & reuse systems, water resource modeling, sustainability,
  • Excellent oral and written skills,
  • Experience in tender preparation, costing and contract administration,
  • Excellent Client record.

 

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST / CHEMIST

The Senior Environmental Scientist / Chemist role will involve planning, design, modeling, and supervision within projects including:

  • Preparation of plans, execution of site investigations and risk assessments and reporting for contaminated sites as per relevant state legislation,
  • Research and preparation of remediation plans,
  • Fate and transport modeling,
  • In conjunction with others, research and design of innovative passive bioremediation systems for wastewater treatment,
  • Develop business opportunities.

Essential Qualifications/Skills

  • Environmental chemistry, geochemistry, or similar qualifications, preferably to Masters level,
  • At least 5 years experience in environmental investigations, including contaminated site assessment and remediation,
  • Ability to engineer innovative solutions for clients,
  • Ability to quote and manage projects,
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements,
  • Client liaison at all levels with an excellent Client record,
  • Guiding and mentoring others,
  • Excellent oral and written skills.

ESD ENGINEER or SENIOR ESD ENGINEER

Syrinx is looking to appoint a talented Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) Engineer with mechanical engineering qualifications and a background in sustainable energy systems.  This position will complement the sustainable science and design capacity within the Company, and will report to the Team Leader - Sustainability Initiatives.  This position will be the only mechanical engineering role in the Company, so the applicant must have a fair degree of technical autonomy, capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team and with other subconsultants to generate the best sustainable designs for urban developments. To be successful in this position, you are likely to have an inventive and creative mind, with the ability to link your thinking to a broader Integrated sustainable resource management approach.

The ESD Engineer will responsible for producing designs across energy systems including photovoltaic system designs and renewable energy designs, undertaking energy modeling at the built form and precinct scale of developments, and developing guidelines and specifications for alternative energy systems . You will also be required to complete engineering calculations, documents and designs.

Essential Qualifications/Skills

  • Tertiary Engineering qualifications in Mechanical or Sustainability Engineering,
  • Minimum 3 years ESD Engineering experience,
  • Creative and lateral design skills and excellent research capability,
  • ABGR or ABSA accreditation will be highly regarded,
  • Good leadership skills,
  • Excellent communication skills.


This role offers a wide ranging and stimulating position for someone with passion and technical acumen. You will be tasked with working alongside Professionals to provide expertise in the following areas; greenhouse gases, energy modeling, green building materials, energy efficiency, solar/wind/geothermal energy systems, innovative design.

In addition to your developed knowledge of the Australian context, you will be expected to monitor global advances to ensure that this company is at the forefront of sustainability.

TEAM LEADER ROLE
Depending on the applicant, either position will also have the responsibility of Team Leader for the Resource Analysis group within the Urban Ecology Unit, and therefore the applicant must have the ability to understand and know how to advise and guide a multi-disciplinary team focused within this area, which includes water, energy, waste and environmental planning disciplines and the co-ordination of specialist subconsultants as required.  As Team Leader you will be expected to assist the Business Unit Manager in development of opportunities and resourcing the team.
